The Faroe Islands are remote, mysterious, and seriously dramatic—but also stunningly beautiful. If you’re into landscape photography, this place is a magnet.
The islands get hit hard by the elements: massive cliffs shoot up from the ocean, and huge waves crash into the shore, carving out wild formations. Tucked away in the Atlantic, halfway between Norway and Iceland, National Geographic called the Faroe Islands the most authentic and untouched group of islands in the world—and we totally get why. The weather and light change constantly, making it a dream for photographers. You can experience all four seasons in just one hour. It might be raining, then suddenly the sun’s out, and if you turn around, it could be snowing or hailing. It’s wild and beautiful.
In 2027, we’re heading out in early October for our 8-day adventure, hoping for fresh snow and some seriously dramatic conditions!
Autumn in the Faroes Islands boasts a landscape with rich earth tones despite the scarcity of deciduous trees: the grass turns vibrant hues of rust, bronze, and yellow, creating a color contrast with the blues of the ocean and moody skies.
If we're lucky and the weather cooperates we might even see auroras.
Autumn is also a time of fewer tourists, so we may have many locations all to ourselves.
Itinerary
We don’t have a set itinerary for this photo tour. The Faroe Islands are unpredictable thanks to all the local weather systems—conditions can change in minutes and just a few miles apart. That’s why we keep things flexible. Some of the spots on our list are Gjógv, Gásadalur, Sørvágsvatn, Saksun, Tjørnuvík, Funningur, Nordradalur, Sornfelli, and plenty more. We’ll also spend a couple of days on Suduroy, the southernmost island, which has some of the craziest cliffs and coastline you’ll ever see.
This is a photo tour, everything is planned around sunrise, sunset, and possible night shoots. The whole archipelago is packed with amazing locations, and the weather and light will decide where we go.
Since this is a tour rather than a workshop, no formal classroom sessions are scheduled. But, as time and space permits, we may gather for some image sharing. And help will always be available in the field.
The tour is always dependent on weather and the itinerary is flexible and can be changed. Likewise, wildlife sightings are completely dependent upon the movements of the animals themselves and cannot be guaranteed.
We highly recommend that you get a travel and medical insurance. Your own domestic medical insurance may not cover you while you are overseas.

Getting There
It's been advised to use Atlantic Airways to get from mainland Europe to the Faroe Islands: Atlantic airways is the official airline of the Faroe Islands.
One option is to fly Iceland Air to Copenhagen and Atlantic Airways from Copenhagen to the Faroe Islands. While you can take Iceland Air from Iceland to the Faroes, Iceland Air is reportedly not as reliable as Atlantic Airways.
New requirements to enter Europe
Starting late 2026, travelers from 59 visa-exempt countries, which includes the United States, will face new pre-boarding checks under ETIAS, the European Travel Information and Authorization System.
Required for short-stay visits to 30 European Union nations, ETIAS authorization must be verified by carriers before departure.
For information about applying for your ETIAS travel authorization, visit this page: https://etias.com/etias-application
What's included
- Personalized instruction
- Honest evaluation of your work (workshops)
- Location expertise
- Ample teasing
Travel Insurance
We understand that sometimes folks need to make cancellations due to illness, family emergencies, etc.
Unfortunately, we are unable to provide refunds or credit for cancellations less than 90-days out from a trip. Nor will full refunds be issued in cases of Force Majeure (see cancellation policies).
We therefore highly recommend trip insurance that includes a "Cancel for any Reason" provision.
